Colour and shape. Two of the most important ways that data can be transformed into a visual story. So when science-talent magnets Zeki asked us to expand their core style guide for data visualization, that’s exactly where we started.

We began by carefully extending Zeki’s core palette, making possible a flexible new range of colour combinations – which can be used to create richer, more robust visual representations of complex data.

Across different example charts, we showed these colours in action within their existing palette. For example, how orange can be used to spotlight comparisons or how grey can be used to de-emphasize data.

We then evolved Zeki’s brand language by introducing new shapes to its visual vocabulary. Subtly echoing the curve of the Zeki ‘Z’, these brand assets can be made more detailed or simplified according to need.

With this new visual system in place, we redesigned Zeki’s website to seamlessly weave these fresh elements into its digital home.
